Trying to follow where God might lead. That’s what Isobel Kuhn writes with honesty and plain speaking. It’s her story of how God worked in her early life and how she found direction. Written in the 1950s, it remains a readable story, full of surprises and epiphanies. I found it inspiring and thought-provoking (in a good way).

Isobel Kuhn, with China Inland Mission, writes of her and her husbands time among the Lisu people in the great mountains of West China from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. I was greatly honored to read of these people and the love of these missionaries; the culture, the living conditions, the living on the side of the mountain, the Lisu people and how they took what they learned and became missionaries themselves. And also how much prayers are needed for the work to continue and more importantly how many more workers are needed to take the gospel to those who haven't heard. Remarkably honest first person account.

Isobel Kuhn details her change from skeptic to Christian and where that journey then led her. It is a short account but very detailed. It stops short of documenting her missionary experiences which are contained in other books.

I know this is a classic and I did enjoy it but found the tone slightly irritating in places. I can't really explain why. There was also some unnecessary detail of matters which seemed unimportant.

Recommended though for those interested in preparation for missions or even those wondering how to "search for God!"… (plus d'informations)

Isobel had the privilege of seeing the Spirit of God moving among an unreached people group. First published 61 years ago, and considered worthy of reprint in 1999.
