This is not a shaming book, putting the blame for empire on anyone with a white face; this is a well constructed argument that we, the British people, brown, black, yellow or white are suffering from an unresolved empire hangover. Kojo Koram explains how so many of the laws, particularly surrounding business and finance, were created for an empire more so than a country. Now, with our empire long (and correctly) given its freedom, these laws are not only damaging our ex-colonists, but are boomeranging back on the British people too.
I have an A5 book, in which I make notes of interesting facts, as I read a factual book. Usually, these notes extend to about a page; two pages and that's a good book! Uncommon Wealth managed just shy of four full pages. I may need to read it again: not because it is a difficult read, but because there is so much to take in that I could easily have missed something whilst digesting his last point.
This is such a good book, I really cannot recommend it highly enough. If you haven't read it, you owe it to yourself so to do and, if you have, then like me, it may well be time to read it again.… (plus d'informations)
