Renate Klöppel

Renate Klöppel was born in Hannover, Germany. She studied medicine at the Hannover Medical School from 1967 to 1973, and received a doctorate there. She then completed further training to become a pediatrician. From 1986 to 1991, she studied at the Hochschule für Musik (State University of Music) in Trossingen, graduating as a qualified music teacher and then becoming a lecturer there. The main focus of her work and teaching has been music physiology. She has also taught developmental psychology with a special focus on the problems of children with behavioral problems. She has written four nonfiction books on the topic, three of which have been translated into different languages.

She has lectured and given seminars in all German-speaking European countries and published articles in various specialty journals. In 1999, Dr. Klöppel turned to writing fiction and published numerous crime novels and children's books.

As a harpsichordist, she gave concerts with the Villinger Barockensemble from 1985 to 2007, and has since played in a Freiburg ensemble.

She is married to neurologist and psychiatrist Dr. Dieter Klöppel, with whom she lives in Freiburg im Breisgau.
