Anyone who can dress a loom and pass a shuttle through the warp is invited to use this book as a guide for weaving patterns. It is intended for beginners as well as advanced weavers in the hope of stimulating experimentation with a variety of methods including use of unusual mechanisms or simple loom modifications which open up greatly expanded possibilities. A variety of weaving tools, from ordinary pick – up sticks to elaborate drawlooms, are examined here to show how each functions and to offer a choice of ways to produce a desired pattern. In order to stay within reasonable limits, the focus is on the use of floor looms, though some methods are suitable for use with other loom types as well. Some of the less usual devices are simple, easily constructed, and suitable for application to almost any loom. Attention is given to several of these. Many of the techniques and devices presented here have been used and perfected by weavers of various countries and periods in history. Others are novel applications of tested principles.
