Smaro, you make everything worse with your bio blurbs. Any anthology of over 400 pages has to have some bright spots (the 110 class I TA for is winding up the year with a David Bezmogis story about being a Jewish kid and getting in fights that is an uncut gem; also, seeing Tomson Highway in anything is always a pleasure, and I approve of the collection's general commitment to the shaken-but-not-bowed school of native lit that is just too rugged to have attached to it a sissy descriptor like "empowering." And there are others. Drawbacks include the overindulgence in impressionist poetry - my god, my god, on this subject we couldn't stick more to dudes with a real story to tell or an argument to roll out, instead of feewings junk? (If that isn't too harsh, and of course I enjoy several of these poets too - but not enough to remember their names or walk across the room to check) - and the general underwhelmingness of the anthology as a genre. What possible excuse is there for excerpts, unles by excepts you mean block quotes in the service of an argument, like in essays and shit? Let's read some books and quit faffing around. Of course, I'm a guy who still won't download single songs, only albums, so if you disagree with this review please feel free to chalk it up to my unusual psychosis.

HA HA PS The Amazon short description for this book says "ethnic" four times in 69 words.
