This story is very jumpy, at one moment fighting bad guys and retrieving artifacts, then intimate sex scenes, then back to the past.
*** SPOILERS to come***
In the previous book Daniel was very shy and uptight about all things intimate. In this one, you can't go very few pages without Daniel and Nina having sex. Every once and a while there's a nod to Daniel's conservatism but mostly he comes out as a completely different person. I kept waiting for something to explain this radical change but it never comes.
Turns out a person from his past is involved with the Nazi and religious zealot groups and he's the one leading the charge. This story line seems to be mostly tease in this book and hopefully will lead someone in the next book.
As I read this story I kept asking myself where is this going? why are characters so out of character, it left for an unsettling read. There's a lot of mythos and dangling threads. I did enjoy most of Daniel and Nina's romance forming stronger bonds but ended the book feeling incomplete.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and the above is my honest review.
