Courte biographie
J. Robert Janes is a mystery author best known for writing historical thrillers. Born in Toronto, he holds degrees in mining and geology, and worked as an engineer, university professor, and textbook author before he began writing fiction. In 1992, Janes published Mayhem, the first in the long-running St-Cyr and Kohler series for which he is best known. These police procedurals set in Nazi-occupied France have been praised for the author’s attention to historical detail, as well as their swift-moving plots.

Critiques

During Nazi-occupied France, a French police officer and a SS agent ten up to solves a series of murders of young girls. Involves kidnapping, abuse, and pornography. Explicit and depressing. DNF.

A historical drama based before and during WWII with plenty of historical research. It's interesting but has some slow parts and there's not a whole lot of action. The setting and atmosphere are written well, although a few parts are harder to believe. This novel is the first I've read by this author. Overall, a decent drama for historical fiction readers.

WWII mystery. French detective and German detective try to work together. Interesting, a little hard to follow. I should try another of the series.

OK story, nice geology and archaeology tidbits, but I found it hard to keep the players straight.
