Athens Affair by Elle James
Brotherhood Protectors International series #1. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone but best if familiar with any of multiple series. Second chance troupe, secret baby.
Former Navy SEAL Ace Hammerson is working a security detail in Jordan when he recognizes the interpreter as the woman he met and fell in love with four years ago after a week spent together on vacation. They lost touch when he was sent on a mission and she changed jobs. Now in the museum as a movie is being filmed, he watches Jasmine Nassar disappear into a side room. When Ace discovers some missing artifacts, he confronts Jasmine and learns her son has been kidnapped and is being held hostage in exchange for the stolen goods. Unfortunately, Jasmine is mugged by a rival wanting the artifacts and now Jasmine doesn’t have any leverage to save her son. Ace and the Brotherhood Protectors to the rescue.

Fast moving action and steamy romance. Exactly what you’d expect from the Brotherhood Protector series as the teams across the U.S. help and expand into Europe.
Heroes, guns and blowing things up, strong men and women fighting for the underdog, and a sexy night of romance, all before the bad apple loses and the hea commences.

Kiana’s Hero by Elle James
Brotherhood Protectors Hawaii series book #3. Spinoff of Brotherhood Protectors. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Former Marine Force Recon, Devlin Mulhaney had joined the Hawaii branch of the Brotherhood Protectors. His first task is to protect Kiana Williams and help find her missing friend. They arrive at the friends apartment and realize others more dangerous are searching for Meredith too. Gangs, drugs, and dead con men won’t slow down the Brotherhood from doing the right thing and ending up as heroes.

Fast moving action and suspense. Super sexy scenes as they find a safe pace to rest for the night. Extra help from the rest of the branches and ex special forces to fly in and help with the organized infiltrations. Rescue and follow-up as the Brotherhood once again proves their support for all things good and family.
Formulaic, sure. But a great adventure and a swooning couple fall in love so it’s a win for them and a spicy romance to spend an afternoon reading for me.
4.5.½

Lucas by Elle James
Bayou Brotherhood Protectors series #3. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone. Spin off from Brotherhood Protectors. Previous couples in this series have secondary rolls.
Former Delta Force Operator, Lucas LeBlanc, has joined the Brotherhood Protectors hoping to put his skills to use. Since he’s been in town, he’s developed a crush on the woman that owns the flower store. He decides to stay at the bar with his friends one night after noticing she’s there too with her friends.
Felina Faivre owns the only flower shop in Bayou Mambaloa. She will do all the flowers for the grand historical houses for an upcoming local festival and she will also do the flowers and stand up in the wedding of her best friend who had an affair with and then stole Felina’s boyfriend. To save face, she wants to find a date. Lucas steps up to be her boyfriend just in time to stop a home burglary which turns into a murder mystery.

Fast action and romance as Lucas and Felina stay in the middle of the investigation and the danger mounts. Steamy dessert and instalove. If you know, you know.
Lucas is kind of adorable with all his attempts at pickup lines. A terrific addition to the series.½

Leilani’s Hero by Elle James
1st book, Brotherhood Protectors, Hawaii. Spin off of Brotherhood Protectors. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Angelo Cortez, former Navy SEAL, and a few of his buddies are on Maui for a brief vacation before joining their new employer on the big island opening a new branch of the Brotherhood Protectors. After the fires, Leilani is doing the best she can to keep some of her former employees working the two remaining boats and doing bus tours of the island for visitors. The lands still need to be cleared while everyone waits for insurance settlements and big business property developers are trying to buy up pieces for future development. Leilani has refused offers and now her business operations are being systematically sabotaged. Angel and his team jump into action while Swede, their computer guru, does searches on potential suspects.

Fast paced action and steamy romance. The combined series are formulaic, but an exciting escape into a hero (ex special forces) saving the girl and his team as backup all working to resolving the conflict.
Epilogue sets up the next book in the series.

In book five of the Devil’s Shroud series, Chance McCall is a former Army Ranger and suffering from a bad case of PTSD. His work as a Stealth Ops Specialist is top secret, and he’s not looking for a permanent relationship with a woman. On leave to attend his friend’s wedding in a quaint seaside town, he meets Jillian Taylor and his plans for a relaxing vacation quickly unravels.
Jillian is planning her best friend’s wedding, working as a real estate agent, and renovating her new house all at the same time. Even though several townspeople claim ghosts haunt the old Thompson place, she bought the decrepit Victorian house to make it into a real home. After a few accidents, Jillian realizes someone isn’t happy about her plans for the house. Luckily for her, Chance steps in to help. The danger grows as they work together to solve the mystery of a once-missing child and to stop the attacks on Jillian’s life, but the attraction between them sparks hotter than any threat.
What a great story! The romance between Chance and Jillian bloomed fast but felt believable. Both characters have a rough past and are still dealing with their personal traumas, which made them likable and relatable.
I haven’t read the previous books in the series, but some of the past heroes and heroines returned for this book, including Nova and Molly who are getting married. Most of the townspeople are kind, cranky, or kooky, and all of them have their own charm.
Other than a few minor typos, the story was fast paced and well written. I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more from Ms. James.
4.5 Stars

In book four of the Covert Cowboys Inc. series, Sophia Carranza has made a daring escape across the Mexican border in order to escape her abusive fiancé, a powerful cartel leader. She seeks refuge in a small hunting cabin in south Texas and soon finds herself face to face with a sexy cowboy.
Thorn Drennan blames himself for the death of his wife and unborn child, and he’s been living a shadow of a life for the past two years. As a former FBI agent and the local county sheriff, he doesn’t like bending the law, but now he works for a security company that’s willing to break the law when needed. Though he wants to help Sophia, he doesn’t like or understand the protective and sexual feelings he has for her. As they work together to escape her enemies, he soon realizes he may have a second chance at happiness.
Sophia is stubborn and vulnerable, and Thorn is torn between remaining loyal to his dead wife and moving on with his life. They’re both broken, hurt people and fit together well.
I enjoyed this story, but I found it strange the majority of the book took place in a span of about three days. Sophia and Thorn barely got any sleep, and I have no idea how they had so much energy to do what needed to be done. Their feelings bloomed fast for one another, but it felt believable since high-octane, dangerous situations bring people closer together.
I didn’t notice any typos, which is always refreshing. Characters from the previous books played secondary roles in this one, and I would like to read those books.
4 Stars

Gerard by Elle James
Bayou Brotherhood Protectors series #2. Romantic suspense. Spinoff from Brotherhood Protectors. All series loosely connected, worth different locations. Can be read as a standalone.
Gerard joins the Bayou group of the Brotherhood Protectors and his first assignment is to find the person that broke the goose’s neck. Bernadette Bellamy owns and runs a small farm at the edge of the Bayou. First the dead goose, then a gruesome find in the mud of the pig pen and then a written threat. Gerard will help protect the pretty farmer and hopefully prevent any further damage on the farm that she can ill afford.

Watch out for those hogs. They will eat anything! Gerard and Bernie are immediately attracted and the danger escalates. Call the computer experts for some help with background and electronics, and call the rest of the protectors for support on any task needed.
Steamy and a rush of adrenaline as the bad guys are unearthed.
Formulaic, sure. But I look at these as proven sexy good times and a happy ever after with a strong and heroic ex-military men. Candy for the romance addiction.

I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I bought this at a local Goodwill store and I've rated it at 4.5*. This is not for the under 18 readers. This is centered around Christmas with a touch of humor with names of characters and more. It had me chuckle more than once even though it has several murders leaving many clues around. It was a fun weekend read.½

Saving Jenna by Elle James
Brotherhood Protectors: Yellowstone #7. Contemporary romantic suspense. Spin-off series of other Brotherhood Protectors. Ex military with PTSD.
Ex Nacy SEAL Cliff Cranston left the military after seeing too many deaths and too much war. He drops off a friend in A Bozeman, Montana hospital and runs into FBI Special Agent Jenna Jenkins as she’s trying to catch the janitor that kidnapped her new born niece. Cliff stays to help Jenna search and to protect her sister, with help from he Brotherhood Protesters in tracking names and background for anyone that knew the sister or about the baby.

Fast moving action as the search for the baby is immediate as Jenna desperately wants to find her niece. Immediate attraction as Cliff and Jenna feel comfortable working together and more and get help from the main organization. Some predictable motives as the author leads the reader through videotape searches and background profiles. A misleading clue gives a twist as we get to the kidnapper. A formula, yes, but a great romantic suspense read.

Remy by Elle James
Bayou Brotherhood Protector series #1. Spin off from other Brotherhood Protectors series and locations. Ex military romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone romance.
Remy is hired to set up the new Louisiana location of the protection agency Brotherhood Protectors. With perfect timing, he is available to go to the aid of Shelby Taylor, a sheriff’s deputy that has been hurt in the line of duty.
Remy and Shelby have known each other for a long time and only recently had a weekend of fun together. Remy will do whatever he needs to do In protecting Shelby because she may just be his future.

Fast moving suspense, action and catching the bad guys. With a little relationship building and steamy fun times along the way. Follows the basic format for all the various Protectors books, this one with the heroine also being law enforcement and helping push back the criminals from her small home town.
It’s always an adventure with these ex military men as they protect, serve, and find a love to last a lifetime.
4.5½

Saving Savvie by Elle James
Brotherhood Protectors: Yellowstone #6. Spinoff from original Brotherhood Protector series. Can be read as a stand-alone although there are a few characters referenced from the original series and included throughout the various stories. Mostly support and background of the organization.
Savvie is a burned-out government assassin. She’s calling it her last job and she’s going to disappear and find something else to do to make a living. But she wasn’t given all the details on this mark and now the traffickers are looking for her. Savvie calls an ex-coworker and subsequently gets help from Hunter and the Brotherhood Protectors. They vow to take the traffickers down and rescue the women that are being held. There are leaks though in the FBI, the police departments and authorities and that’s going to make the rescue very dangerous.

Fast moving action, passion and endangerment. It’s all hands on deck to get this rescue done.
Yes, formulaic, given the number of similar books in all the connected series. It’s still breathtaking to read and enjoy the action while being safe in my own home.

Not bad. It had action and suspense and romance. And the secret baby. That's always a plus. This is part of a series, but stand alone enough so that I wasn't lost or bogged down in past details. A nice quick read that was pretty interesting.
