The tradition of the "Holy Fool", stems in part from "Candide" and sort of limps through this exercise, using the Great War as a framework for its service comedy tropes. Not interesting. into the bargain, the title for this book edition is wrong, and reads Bartholomew BRANDY not "Bartholomew Bandy, which is the correct title.

A humourous novel of the WW-I adventures of a military misfit. You do not even have to be a fan of military history to enjoy this one. Jack has dug below the surface and found the humour which existed in the day to day lives of the brave men in the front lines.
