Vordak T. Incomprehensible

Devilishly funny. Also, heavily illustrated, with a lot of the text broken up into boxes and lists and things, so 8- to 11-year-old kids will flip through it and decide they can handle it. (I can't count the number of times recently that I've handed a kid a book, they've flipped through it quickly, and handed it back because there were no pictures. Wimpy Kid fallout.)

A boy and his scientist parents move to a new planet and he must adjust to a new school and also inadvertently defeat an evil scientist.
Meh. S'okay but not fabulous.

This book was actually laugh-out-loud and "read to other people funny parts" funny. Although it's a little "edgy" for elementary, middle schooler will love it!
