A book that has a lot of different ideas in it. Overall it was a good book, but I had a hard time getting thru it. I'll keep it on my shelf, but I don't know how often I'll refer to it.

A useful book for leaders on how to get out of your comfort zone and develop some leadership traits that may not come naturally. Hull maintains that leaders generally fall into the following categories: cerebral type (thinker), empathic type (feeler), or somatic type (doer). However, a good leader needs to train him/herself to borrow traits from all three types depending on the situation. Hull gives lots of examples from the clients he works with as a leadership consultant. He also gives practical tips. This book was good, but not career-changing for me.… (plus d'informations)

Was interested in this book for the FIERCE model I'd heard about and being able to adapt your leadership style. The first one wasn't mentioned much, I mean in a sense it was the framework of the book, but in another sense it was barely featured. The adapting of the leadership style was strong. Lots of examples going back and forth between alpha & beta leadership, which is ironic in a way because Hull's thesis is that we do too much "binary sorting" and yet here we are, sorting by alpha or beta. Still a lot of good examples, easy to see yourself and others in the case studies, and in how they were able to adapt. Worthwhile to keep in the library for when I need to refer to it as I grow in my own leadership.… (plus d'informations)

Okay book. It focuses on expanding your abilities as a leader, rather than completely changing how you lead. So alpha leaders will still be alpha leaders but will be able to incorporate some strengths of the beta leader into their style. And conversely, beta leaders will still be beta leaders but will be able to incorporate some of the strengths of the alpha leader into their style. Basically, the author teaches leaders to add more tools to their "leadership tool belt". The skills people possess that got them where they are today may one day hinder further upward movement if they continue to lean on only those skills without tempering them with the skills of the opposite leadership style.

The book has a lot of good and helpful information in it. Lots of practical people skills can be learned from it. At the same time I failed to be completely captivated by the writing. Not among the books that are hard to put down. Perhaps too much information? Maybe just a bit too repetitive? I'm not entirely sure where the book was lacking. I do still consider this a good solid book worth reading.
