The Way It Was in the U.S.A.: A pictorial Panorama… par Clarence P. Hornung
This book captures views of America from 1850 to 1890, a period when there was a great hunger for pictures of places and events. Although photography had been invented, there was no way by which images could be printed in the popular press until 1890 when Stephen Horgan developed the halftone plate. The process of wood block engraving was developed into a fine art, and quickly filled the pages of Harper's, Leslie's and other weekly magazines. This book contains over 500 pages of prints along with accompanying contemporary text.… (plus d'informations)
