A set of related short stories set in an alternate Boston of SteamPunk, Ghosts, and demons. Some of the ideas really interesting, but the writing in general is not very good: often overly simple descriptions- telling rather than showing. Also while this is titled Prelude, at least 2 of the stories take place during or after the other book. But at minimum, The Secret should be read before the other book.
Disappointing.

I enjoyed the story, my first intro into the BMS. I also liked the extra bit of history and explanation at the end.

The Scourge of the Mechanical Man is an excellent addition to the Boston Metaphysical Society series. This is another graphic novel that is packed full of steam punk, drama and action.

Medical laboratories, old fashioned wardrobes and thrills await in this great little book. I really enjoyed the short addition and I think it was just enough. It wasn't too long or too short, it gave just enough 'umph' for a side story in this universe.

The Mechanical Men are super creepy and totally had me shivering (in a bad yet good way). I was really impressed by the illustrations. Very rarely do I get creeped out by illustrations!

Overall, this is action packed and super thrilling. If you love steam punk and graphic novels, give this book a try! And check out the entire series too! It's worth it!

Four out of five stars.

A Storm of Secrets is a novelization addition to the Boston Metaphysical Society series.

This series is packed full of graphic novels, and then this little gem comes along. It's longer, exciting and full of written steampunk lore.

Elizabeth has just married Samuel, and she is back at Weldsmore. Not only do we see Elizabeth and the famous Weldsmore family, but we witness some paranormal investigations go down in the spookiest of sense. Oh, and lots of steampunk - 1800s, dark themes, ghosts, mediums, psychics and more!

I really enjoyed how packed tight this novel was. It was hard to put it down (even though I had to). When I finally got the chance, I would jump back in and be pulled in tight. There's lots of fantasy and thrills throughout the pages to keep the reader hooked. I think this is a great intro to the steampunk world for me and I'd like to gravitate a little more to that genre because of Madeleine's great writing.

If you haven't grabbed this series yet, check it out! Or if you've read this book, check out the graphic novels. Madeleine is an excellent author and has created one marvelous universe that rivals the best.

Four out of five stars.
