Review from Google Books:
The main functions of this book are: e To provide a ready reference for students as they learn to write in te reo Maori. Contains an alphabetical list of more than 800 of the most commonly used words. e To provide a handy, logical space in which students can record new words for future reference. At the earliest stage of learning te reo Maori, such new vocabulary would probably come from the teacher, but later students could be encouraged to experiment with spelling after listening to the sound of a word, then entering it in the book when theye(tm)ve got it correct. e To be a resource through which the teacher can reinforce a number of language skills and important general knowledge: initial sounds, phonetical groupings, compound word structures, parts of the body, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, certain place names of Aotearoa, and the historic land bases of iwi. The numbers 1 to 10 are featured through the book as both words and numerals, and colours are indicated with balloons which students should colour in appropriately with soft, coloured pencils. e Her and there, to prod students to be creative with sound and rhythm, dance and song - and to have a few laughs!
