This book, written and illustrated by an Australian team, is about a group of students working together to build a house on the playground at lunch. Each of the five friends has a different gender identity and expression, which are presented clearly and simply in ways children can identify with. Sam is a boy who wears his hair long and puts it in a ponytail to play basketball. Alex does not feel like "just" a boy or "just" a girl and uses "they" pronouns. Jackson carries the heaviest rocks and wears dresses and sparkly shoes. Together, they build a house where everyone is welcome as they do all the things kids like to do--together. This book uses plain language to show that all ways of being human are accepted on the team. With its smudgy, impressionistic illustrations and its message of joy, this is a great book to start conversations with young children about breaking stereotypes and accepting everyone.… (plus d'informations)
