a fascinating tale that kept me guessing, even to the end. while i liked the writing, the storyline itself seemed to be a case of PTSD, more PTSD, still more PTSD, then stockholm syndrome. i assume the next book will see some diplomacy attempted, and our MC will be forced into more torturous situations.

I do not typically read this genre but decided I could use an interjection of Sci-fi in my reading repertoire. I chose this series not only for the back cover descip but for the good star rating it was getting on Amazon. Oh and it was free.

As I said, I normally don't read sci-fi and I certainly don't read non-fantasy war books. This one was both. And I really enjoyed it! I was pleasantly surprised by how I grew attached to some of the minor characters that sacrificed themselves, how I wanted them to avail despite knowing they most likely would not.

The "bad guys" were original to me- a race of female warriors who wanted to bring honor and glory to their Empress- and I liked that they weren't just hateful monsters. Their honor system was very interesting and I am looking forward to seeing how the story series progresses.

Parents told their children that monsters were only the stuff of nightmares, that they weren't real; Bryce and Angelina knew better.

Michael Hicks draws you into a believably benign world that quickly becomes a horrifying childhood nightmare.

Everything you've been taught about the dangers of GMO - genetically modified food, gets twisted into a science fiction horror story beyond what you could ever have imagined.

And this is only the first book!
