In this exciting tale of two hunters we find Nanuk the polar bear, Lord of the Ice, and Inuk the human. Their paths cross in the Arctic near the end of the story, with Nanuk narrowly escaping the weapons of the human hunter. Paintings by Manchess are almost reminiscent of a rudimentary Machetanz.

This story was a great read, telling the story of Nanuk the polar bear as he tries to survive the arctic. The illustrations were well drawn out, it made me feel like I was there in the tundra. The plot was well thought out as well, introducing the polar bear, and a human hunter as they attempt to find some food. A fabulous book that compares yesterday's way of life with today's world. Readers will be able to identify the changes as well as what has stayed the same through the years. Great book for a Social Studies Unit. I am saving this book to add to my library collection!

Some nice pictures, but is this book really for children? It seems kind of scary and dark.
