I didn’t get a 3-D experience reading this because I read it on the Internet Archive. I assume the reason why the same photo is printed twice on each page is to do with the 3-D effect. Without that, it’s somewhat disappointing to have two identical photos on every page, as opposed to one large picture.

The photos themselves are mainly good. The most memorable one is of the comedy genius himself and the book’s author (when she was a small child) sitting beside the biggest Christmas Tree I’ve ever seen – so big that it doesn’t fit in the picture. The story behind this shot is that the tree got bigger every December, to the point that it was eventually left up all year round, supporting over 8,000 ornaments.

Considering that Harold took hundreds of thousands of photos, the number included in this collection is scant. You could get through this book in half an hour tops. A little text accompanies each photo.

The highlight for me wasn’t one of the snaps, but the introduction. Harold’s granddaughter writes a couple of pages on life with a retired comedy genius who was obsessed with taking photos. Jäätyään eläkkeelle 1930-luvulla mykkäkoomikko Harold Lloyd sai vapaasti harrastaa suosikkiharrastuksiaan valokuvausta. 1940-luvun puolivälistä alkaen Lloyd vietti yli kaksi vuosikymmentä käyttämällä 3D-kameraa ystäviensä ja naapureidensa kuvaamiseen – kohteena muun muassa Bob Hope, Gary Cooper, Alan Ladd, Richard Burton, Dick Powell, Roy Rogers, kahdeksantoista vuotta vanha Candice Bergen, Humphrey Bogart ja Lauren Bacall ja monet muut. Näiden valokuvien joukossa on yli tusina silmiinpistävää julkaisematonta kuvaa Marilyn Monroesta, joista osa on otettu Lloydin upealla Beverly Hillsin kartanolla Greenacresissa. Kaikki kirjan valokuvat on toistettu eloisina 3D-muodossa.
