Craig Hankin, who teaches art at the Maryland Institute of Art and the John Hopkins University provides a biographical account of Eugene Leake starting with his childhood. The account contains many quotes from the artist, and is illustrated with black and white photographs. Then follows a collection of 30 of Leake's paintings, each occupying a full page with on the facing page a few comments by the artist; these comments might be about the painting, the place, or just thoughts related to either. The book concludes with a map showing the location for each of the pictures, and also lists of exhibitions.

This is a very appealing book, it is beautifully produced, the text printed on a quality heavy stock and the pictures on a glossy art paper; the images are presented large on the page without the feel of them being crowded. The paintings themselves are modest and unpretentious, as is the subject matter, unremarkable views of the Maryland landscape; yet Leake manages to transform them into idyllic views conveying a mood combining peace and tranquillity with familiarity and homeliness, even to the stranger.… (plus d'informations)
