Frank Borden Hanes

This is a gripping novel written mostly from the viewpoint of the Indigenous combatants in this episode in American History. I remember it after a lapse of fifty eight years. The characters, especially that of Chief Joseph are finely drawn, and the reasons for the violence are clearly laid out. Anyone who has an interest in the American West, and Indigenous-White relations should spend the time necessary for this read. This book did get a reprinting in 1989.
