Francis has a particular interest in archaeological theory and the post-excavation process.
His General Standards for the Preparation of Archaeological Archives Deposited with the Museum of London (1998) have been influential throughout the UK. Originally a Classical scholar, Francis retains a particular interest in Roman archaeology.
