Paula Green is one of New Zealand's most highly regarded poets. She has published numerous poetry collections for both adults and children and has edited several anthologies. Her works include 99 Ways Into New Zealand Poetry written with Harry Ricketts and The Baker's Thumbprint. In 2015 her title afficher plus Dear Heart: 150 New Zealand Love Poems made the New Zealand Best Seller List. Her title Letterbox Cat made the shortlist for the 2015 Esther Glen Junior Fiction award. The author took two groups of children to Auckland Zoo to write poems about their experiences. The children ranged in age from 7 to 12. This book teaches children that poetry is fun and easy to write. Poetry is 99% imagination! The back of the book provides a glossary of poetry definitions and examples in a poetry toolkit that includes topics such as sound, line breaks, rhythm, figures of speech, form, and layout. This portion of the book is an excellent curriculum connection for introducing children to poetry as well as writing their own poetry.
