Nell S. Graydon (1893–1986)

Nell Saunders Graydon was born in Pineville, North Carolina, where she lived for many years. She married Sterling Graydon and moved to Greenwood, South Carolina. She began her writing career in her 60s by contributing stories to newspapers and magazines. Her first book, Tales of Edisto (1955) featuring the coastal island where she spent many summers, was an instant success. It was followed by Another Jezebel (1958), a fictionalized account of Amelia Sees Boozer, a Yankee spy in South Carolina during the Civil War; and other books for adults and young adults, including Eliza of Wappoo; South Carolina Ghosts Tales; South Carolina Gardens; and Nell Graydon's Cookbook, From My House to Your House.
