Sarah Hannah Gómez

Maribel gets trapped in the midst of a volcano eruption when she goes home alone to retrieve stuff from her family's home after they have evacuated from the red zone. Moves at a pretty quick pace and the sense of fear and suspense is palpable during the natural disaster. Maribel's family is Mexican American and her grandmother lives with them. BIPOC author Sarah Hannah Gómez has masters degrees in children's literature and library science.

Excellent addition to the series -- love the thoughtful inclusion and discussion of Native lands and naming, the Latinx family, the focus on near-history and a disaster very close in time and familiarity to US residents. Told a good story, and was effectively scary when describing walking through ash clouds and the approaching lahar.
