It's Wednesday already and boy do I have a humpday read for you! The Hookup Dilemma by Constance Gillam came in scorching hot. I was not expecting that level of steam on the first few pages. The first two chapters had me fanning myself. I had to put the book down and catch my breath because it was scorching. I was completely caught off guard with how quickly it escalated.

At first, I was apprehensive about continuing because the beginning was so steamy but Gillam's storyline came through. The sizzle never died and I was invested in the bigger picture. This couple had a huge elephant in the room to overcome and Gillam did not drop the ball when it came to tackling big issues like rezoning, gentrification, displacement and interracial dating.

The side characters were so interesting as well. They gave me a reason to keep going. Grandma had me rolling. Her feisty ways gave me life and the car scene had me in tears from laughter. She was not backing down without a fight. The chemistry between Rashida and Elliott was undeniable. This dude was in love after their one night stand.

I loved that this book celebrated the importance of Black solidarity and community. It gave a realistic picture of how "development" really affects longstanding residents. It showed how important honesty and communication is in a relationship. More importantly, this book shows why we need to protect "our villages" especially our elders.

Thanks to @entangled_publishing and @tlcdiversity for the gifted copy. I will definitely be reading more of Gillam's work in the future.

From the moment Elliott Quinn sees gorgeous Rashida Howard get out of an Uber in front of his father's office, she catches his eye. He is sitting in a booth at the bar across the street, head down in on his phone, paperwork capturing all his attention. So begins Constance Gillam's The Hookup Dilemma.

Rashida is angry that her appointment with Marcus Quinn has been canceled yet again. She sees that Elliott has an open seat across from him in his booth and asks if she can sit there, her feet are swollen and she needs to sit down.

They talk and flirt, and Elliott offers to take her to dinner at the Four Seasons nearby. The flirting is hot and heavy, and they end up in a room after dinner. While the sex is amazing, Rashida sneaks out early without leaving her number or last name.

Rashida is concerned that her grandmother's Millhouse neighborhood near downtown Atlanta is heading toward gentrification, leaving the elderly people who have called it home for decades behind. She wants to meet with Marcus Quinn, an architect who bought a building and wants to bring in Whole Foods and Starbucks, and eventually buy up homes and build McMansions in their place.

What Rashida doesn't know is that the Elliott she had hot sex with is Marcus Quinn's son, and with his father out of commission after having had a serious heart attack, Elliott is now the point man on the Millhouse project. If he can't make this project happen, his father's company will be bankrupt.

Although Rashida and Elliott are on the opposite sides of this issue, they can't fight their attraction to each other. They are thrown together, and Elliott has become so entranced by Rashida, he wants to find a way to make both this project work and find a solution for Rashida's grandmother and her neighbors as he has come to know and like them.

If Elliott and Rashida can't find a compromise, any future together is unlikely. I liked the theme of gentrification, it seems to be a growing problem in many large cities, like my own of New York City. I also liked the multiracial aspect of the story. There is a lot of explicit sexual content, so if that is something that you don't like, this book is not for you.

Thanks to TLC Tours for putting me on Constance Gillam's tour.

John Iron Hawk is police captain on Little River Reservation. He has held this job unopposed for quite a few years. However, now he has an opponent. And that opponent is now murdered and John is the prime suspect.

Talk about stressful! I was gripped by this whodunit! John is a character which I was rooting for all the way till the end. When his sister is arrested for the murder, John knows he must take matters into his own hands. He uncovers quite a few bits of information which puts his life at risk!

I enjoyed reading about the Indian reservation. I learned a great deal about the laws and the rituals. Very unique for me!

This book is part of a series. I have not read the other ones in this series and I did not feel lost at all. I will definitely go back and pick up the others. I want to know more!

Need a good suspense with a kick! This is it! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the author for a honest review.

Captain John Iron Hawk is called by his frantic sister, someone has been murdered and she found his body. An unlikely affiliate, Iron Hawk makes sure his sister is safe and goes to check out the scene. He knows there is going to be major blow back on this one, as his sister found the body and this is his running mate for the upcoming election. How will he explain this one?

It is made clear pretty quickly that Iron Hawk is not to continue investigating and is also being put on leave. He is no longer Captain and Iron Hawk knows that this decision was made because of the circumstance surrounding the election and he has a giant red target on his back as they see it. But Captain Iron Hawk cannot stay idle, and let these idiots act like they know how to solve a case, and besides it seems they have tunnel vision. Going rogue is not the best idea as it will jeopardize his future as Captain, but then again what does he have to lose at this point?

Iron Hawk’s rogue work takes him deep into areas he would have never ventured down, and with individuals he never thought he’d make deals with, but can he prove his and or his sisters innocence and that he really had no motive against his running mate? Will the police be able to get past their tunnel vision and follow the actual clues?

Thank you to the author for the free book, and Suzy Approved Book Tours for the invite. I will be seeking out the other books in this series! I was able to read this as a standalone just fine, however it does reference previous situations in the book that I would love to read about to get a better understand of Iron Hawk and the other characters.
