This book was a trip down memory lane for me as I graduated from high school in 1969. I think it perfectly captured the country's mood in the late 1960s. Edwin Gilbert effectively uses slang and the folk/rock music scene to tell a story about a time when concerns about black rights, the Vietnam War, and, subsequently, the draft were significant. Jamey, a talented singer/songwriter, struggled with the life choices that all young adults face. He was drawn to protest against the establishment, the war, and racism, but his musical career became more of a hindrance than a blessing. The protests on university campuses described in the book are eerily similar to the ones I see on the news today related to the Israel-Hamas war. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.… (plus d'informations)

If you are looking for a book with Mad Men vibes, this may be one of your better bets. About various youngish marrieds trying to keep up and better yet set trends in 1960's New York while also trying not always successfully to figure out what they really value.

2022 movie #150. 1942. Bogart plays a high stakes gambler in NYC who's favorite baker is found dead. This leads him to a nest of Nazi sympathizers planning to blow up a ship in the harbor. Bogart was his charmingly best in this, somewhat serious and somewhat comedic, movie.

Broadway gambler Gloves Donahue wants to find who killed the baker of his favorite cheesecake. He sees nightclub singer Leda Hamilton leaving the bakery. When her boss Marty’s partner Joe is murdered, Leda and her accompanist Pepi disappear. It turns out that beneath all the mystery is a gang of Nazi operatives planning to blow up a battleship in New York harbor.(fonte: imdb)
