I really don't care for Fraser-Sampson's take on the beloved characters of E.F. Benson (who were so well updated in the 1980s by Tom Holt). This is marginally better than Major Benjy but there's a lack of nuance here, to my mind, and a bitterness and harshness to the characters that isn't found in the original novels. I'm determined to read the final book, Au Reservoir, so at least I can say I've done so.

I'm glad for those who enjoy this new trilogy, and any time these characters get another airing, but in my mind, the series ends after Holt!… (plus d'informations)
