52 months - O thought the illustrations in this book were scary, I thought they were quite beautiful and appropriate for Halloween. Nice rhyming text as well.

"Whoever you are, / No matter what age, / Don't be afraid, / To turn the next page," begins this rhyming Halloween tale written and illustrated by Linda Franklin. Following our witchy guide "into the pumpkin," readers encounter a series of spooky creatures, from eight-legged spiders editing the guest-list (online) to carved pumpkins setting out tea, all preparing for the holiday celebration to come. As the party gets underway, the celebrants have a marvelous time, with ghosts dancing until they are dizzy, and raven singing until he is hoarse.

Although I enjoyed the text here - as another reviewer notes, it is really quite clever in spots - I think the real star of Into the Pumpkin is the artwork. The cover illustration really doesn't do the interior paintings justice! Franklin's watercolors have a marvelously indistinct quality to them, with scarecrows standing in the fog, and misty ghosts floating about. Simultaneously beautiful and creepy, they are the perfect visual feast for the Halloween season. My particular favorite was the portrait of the black cat, sitting still amidst the pumpkins, although all of the scenes were suitably shivery. Recommended to young Halloween lovers, and to anyone who appreciates spooky artwork!

Into the Pumpkin is a great book with ghosts, ghouls, witches, and other Halloween characters planning a party in an old haunted castle. The illustrated pictures will delight your little one while reading the story.

Here is one poem that my grandson laughed so hard at,
The Ghosts Are All Flying
And Turning Around.
They're Getting So Dizzy,
They Can't Touch The Ground.

Also the back cover with a saying like this gets your child ready for some scary fun:
Whoever You Are,
No Matter What Age,
Don't Be Afraid...

I was given this book from Schiffer Publishing, Ldt. www.schifferbooks.com
