I met the author one weekend in Pensacola. He was sitting in the mall area selling his books. I was curious, I stopped and I was hooked on his patter. I bought this book mainly because I admired his chutzpah. I did read the book. It was difficult to read with his aggravating use of CAPITAL letters throughout. And the story was almost stream of consciousness, which I don't care for. BUT, it was still fascinating to hear his take on WWII from his position in occupied Europe. Since we are about the same age it was an interesting too see his point of view versus mine which was spent in New York during severe rationing times. Although his writing style is a bit rough, it was still interesting. He is obviously a character and has some outstanding experiences. I will try to run him down next year and perhaps, swap one of my books with him this time.… (plus d'informations)

Five Years Under the Swastika is a compelling first hand account of living through WWII in Holland not far from the German border. The book is written from the perspective of Frits, the author, as a boy, so it is full of adventures. The book brings to light the difficulties of just staying alive in a war torn country.
It is a good read, however, the use of ALL CAPS is a distraction. There did not seem to be any rhyme or reason to their usage.
