Luigi Fleischmann (1928–1999)

Dall'aprile del '43 tutta la famiglia Fleischmann è internata a Navelli, un paesino fra il Gran Sasso e la Majella, assieme ad altri ebrei, e ad alcuni confinati politici. Dopo l'8 settembre, sono gli stessi carabinieri italiani a metterli in guardia contro la ben più spietata determinazione dei nazisti. Nascosti sotto falsa identità, gli internati si industriano a sopravvivere, con l'aiuto dei contadini e spesso con la complicità degli stessi funzionari fascisti, nel continuo timore di essere scoperti. Per farsi animo ascoltano clandestinamente la radio inglese. Il sedicenne Luigi, figlio maggiore dei Fleischmann, osserva ed annota, con lo sguardo ingenuo ma attento dell'adolescente, le minute vicende quotidiane e il procedere degli avvenimenti bellici, scanditi dal volgere delle stagioni, le incursioni dell'aviazione alleata; l'ansia per i rastrellamenti, i contatti col nascente movimento di resistenza, fino alla liberazione, cui parteciperà, assieme ai partigiani, nel giugno del '44. I really don't think this reconstructed "diary" (written just after the war) was put in sufficient context. A good introduction, listing the members of the Fleischmann family and how they came to be staying in the remote Italian village, would have gone a long way. As it was I wasn't really sure what was going on here, and it was very frustrating. The author and his family were Jews interned in the mountains in northern Italy and participating in partisan actions, and trying to conceal both their Jewishness and their partisan activities from the Nazis, with the connivance of the Italians. I couldn't determine anything beyond that. It's a pity, because I would like to know more about these "free internees."… (plus d'informations)
