The quality of the these Letters to or from the Editor is very uneven, but they include some that ought to be known. One, probably by the Editor, about the dangers of vaccination, that I quote and sum in a note in Topsy-turvy 1585, almost surely inspired young Malthus with his famous idea. Another, by H. Walpole esq. has 90% of what later would become Franklin’s Letter to a Young Man (about the benefits of enjoying relations with older women). Such little discoveries suggest to me that if we want an honest history of ideas, we will have to input an enormous number of hitherto ignored texts.
