This book is helpful because of its hard hitting questions followed by good common sense advice borne of experience. The advice is good for life - not limited to dealing with criticism. I received this as a LibraryThing Member GiveAway. Thank you.

I won a PDF.file for this book from the author through the giveaway she recently had on LibraryThing, and the following is my honest opinion.

Ever since we’ve been a child [I’m a child of the 1950’s] we’ve been listening to music; first that of our parents while we were still in a crib, as we grew old we gravitated to our own music and our own taste for songs we simply loved listening.

In this book Ms. Awen Finn attempts to interpret the significance of over 50 songs for individuals who had contact her for a “reading” of a song to be able to something about their inner being. And surprisingly when these individuals responded back, she seems to have been intuitively correct in what she wrote.

As a book reviewer I learned it is important, whenever you can, to impart something of yourself in the writing of a review; as it gives a potential reader a personal insight of what a book is about which they might be able to relate to as well. My own intuitiveness have been appreciate several times as I’ve heard back from readers who have bought a copy of the book I’d review saying that they have been able to relate to the book as well. For some reason I have the ability to have a song pop up in the jukebox of my mind only when I’m reading a romance story, perhaps this is because it is the genre I love to write in.

While this book is definitely not one in the romance genre, a song started to play in my mind, it is a song that tells us why singers write the songs they do which make us feel the way they do. The song is “I Write the Songs” by Barry Manilow.

I've been alive forever
And I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs

[CHORUS]
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs

My home lies deep within you
And I've got my own place in your soul
Now, when I look out through your eyes
I'm young again, even though I'm very old

[CHORUS]

Oh my music makes you dance
And gives you spirit to take a chance
And I wrote some rock 'n' roll so you can move
Music fills your heart
Well, that's a real fine place to start
It's from me it's for you
It's from you, it's for me
It's a worldwide symphony

[CHORUS 2x]

For having shared the insights for the songs as they relate to the individuals this author has done song readings for, which many of us might be able to see ourselves in as well, I’m happy to give Ms. Finn the 5 STARS I’ve given her here.

I won a PDF.file for this book from the author through the giveaway she recently had on LibraryThing, and the following is my honest opinion.

As an author and a book reviewer I believe I know a great deal about criticism; in fact, we all do. To begin with, how many of us can remember what our mothers taught us as child: “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say it.” However, this is forgotten about all too often, especially by those who are the ones giving out the criticism.

So if you’re on the receiving end of the criticism you must first look at where such criticism is coming from, and secondly you need to realize there’s nothing wrong with you. As an author I tell aspiring authors that they should not take criticism as criticism, take it as a form of guidance and support from one author to another; a bit of wisdom which can easily be applied to other aspects of one’s life.

Ms. Finn has gone a marvelous job in successfully communicating the intentions of this book of moving forwards despite all the criticism you might have received. While this book can prove to be quite helpful going forwards in your life, it also can help eradicate the mental letdowns you’ve experienced in the past and which still might be holding you back even today.

As I read this book a song which Nat King Cole sang in 1962 came to my mind, a song which practically deals with the theme for this author’s book – “Pick Yourself Up. [This song actually goes back to 1936.]

Here are the lyrics from the song I’m talking about:

Pick yourself up,
Take a deep breath,
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

Nothing's impossible, I have found
For when my chin is on the ground.
I pick myself up,
Dust myself off
And start all over again.

Don't lose your confidence
If you slip
Be grateful for a pleasant trip
And pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

Work like a soul inspired
Until the battle of the day is won.
You may be sick and tired,
But you'll be a man, my son.

Will you remember the famous men
Who had to fall to rise again
They picked themselves up
Dust themselves off
And start'd all over again.

For wanting to help her readers get over the stigma of being criticize I’m giving Ms. Finn 5 STARS.

NOTE: The author has used the British spelling of certain words, etc.

I received a review copy through LibraryThing's 'Member Giveaway'. It's a kind of horoscope reading through submitted songs. Everything supernatural is considered Source in an attempt to draw readers from various religious backgrounds. And if you consider yourself not religious, and still believe in the reading Awen Finn produces, well, you've found a religion. I really don't know whether artists and bands would appreciate this treatment. What's certain,m that this book couldn't keep my attention. As music lover I prefer the songs.… (plus d'informations)
