I loved the two protagonists and their entwined journeys of figuring out their lives. The powers are interesting, and the struggle to understand and train them is cool. And the villain! Properly evil and scary. I'm still not entirely convinced we've seen the last of Jack. And I want to know more about Quentin. I'm not sure I buy that his extensive scarring is just from being "clumsy"...

This was an interesting start to a new dark urban fantasy series. Laurence and Quentin are great MCs, and Jack is a nice villain counterpoint to them. I will warn you, this is a very slow burn romance, so don't expect anything steamy between Laurence and Quentin. It's easy to get caught up in the story, and you'll be turning pages dying to see how things play out. I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store with this series!

I'm not going to finish this one. I should've stopped before 70%. Stupid sunk cost fallacy...

Reason one is, I'm bored. I was a little bored in the first book, but this one's pace is terrible.

Reason two is, I'm no longer invested in the slow-burn relationship. I've read a masterful slow burn relationship in 2 books (so far) that is wicked good. It's not the slowness. It's the utter stand-still. Hope needs some fuel, you know? Or at least distract me with other events.

Reason three is, my time is precious. I'm going to spend it elsewhere.… (plus d'informations)

This was a fantastic surprise. A free book that is also wonderful?? Ooh gimme!

Too often, free ebooks are early works of an author to boost sales. Too often, they make me hesitate to read anything else by that author. But not this one! This writer has talent! Even the epilogue is great! There are a few slower spots for Reasons, but each character must suffer growth, each quite different. Even when very stressed, each is as careful with the other as he can possibly manage. Despite everything, their desire to treat the other kindly is a delight.

Go get it! :)
