Loved this.

Got this from our library book group as a book on the edge of the world and thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt Judy's frustration at Alex and her children for their lack of comprehension at her stress and worries. Alex reminded me so much of my ex husband and his cavalier way of going about life. Was really glad to see that Judy and Alex got back to a good place in their relationship.

Would definitely recommend this book.

Brilliant!

It's a rare book that makes me laugh out loud - but this is so well written, so self depreciating, that I found myself laughing on several occasions.

I loved Judy, who married at the age of 19 and found herself running a 200 acre farm before the days of many modern conveniences that we take for granted. Having decided to stop at two children she eventually raises five, and having resolved to move hundreds of miles from her in-laws she finds they are neighbours on an isolated Scottish island!

Her husband, Alex, reminded me of many of the farmers I met while studying botany at university, rough and rugged but full of heart. He expected a lot from her, even though she was ten years his junior, but loved her through both hardships and successes.

This type of book succeeds entierly on the writing skills of the author and Judy Fairbairns is undoubtedly one of the best.
Read it!!
