Jorge Enciso is an outstanding figure in the cultural life of Mexico. He held various positions related to archeology and history of Mexico. In 1915, Enciso abandoned painting and undertook the defense of pre-Hispanic and colonial monuments. In 1934 the first legislation for the National Symbols was established and the National Coat of Arms was renewed based on a design by Jorge Enciso and placed in the Mexican flag to distinguish it from the Italian flag. He formed an important library that he donated to the Public Library of Jalisco. M. in Mexico City.

300 bold, rhythmic circle designs, originally incorporated on small clay spindle weights, depicting man-like deities, animals both real and fantastic, reptiles, birds, flowers, masks, geometrical figures, wheels, foliage, maze-like patterns, frets ― all employed with the boldness and fanciful characteristics of pre-Columbian art.
