Bill Ellis produced a booklet on an early Ohio family with the name Farnam (or Farnham). One family member in particular is emphasized, Everett Farnam (1800-1884). Everett, son of John Farnam (1761-1834) was born in Connecticut and moved to the Richfield, Ohio in 1812.

After John Farnam moved to Ohio he acquired a considerable amount of land and upon his death, Everett took over the estate and continued to add to its size. Everett saw himself in a kind of partnership with God and planted many trees in a random manner throughout the estate. The estate was famous for its orchards and fruit trees. He raised many head of cattle and sheep, which produced much wealth for the family.

In 1862, Everett hired Miss Sarah Lanphear to serve as governess and tutor for his son Everett, Jr. and daughter Mary. Miss Lanphear stayed with the Farnams for about one year (see p. 41). I acquired the booklet primarily because of Farnam's employment of Miss Lanphear, as I have done some research on the Lanphear family.

The booklet is enhanced with photocopies of a number of legal documents, photos, and several beautiful sketches. Persons interested in obtaining a copy may do so by contacting the Richfield Historical Society (see richfieldohiohistoricalsociety.org).
