Katrin Eismann is an internationally respected lecturer and teacher on the subject of imaging, restoration, retouching, and the impact of emerging technologies upon professional photographers, artists, and educators. Her clients include Adobe, Apple, Disney, Kodak, Fuji, the Professional afficher plus Photography Association, and the American Film Institute. The Creative Digital Darkroom promises to be a book about photographic post processing, instead of a Photoshop tutorial. And while that book is hidden somewhere in there, the majority of the book is in fact a Photoshop tutorial.

As Photoshop changes with every version, as YouTube is flooded with ever more photographers looking for a side business in teaching, and as different tools cater for different workflows, the value of Photoshop tutorials is getting lower and lower. Personally, I am not interested in Photoshop.

Still, many of the lessons in this book were valuable, and could be easily translated to my tool of choice. I just wish it focused more on photography than on Photoshop.

This is the best book on the subject of photo restoration, containing lots of techniques and ideas for photoshoppers of all skill levels.

A Gift for the Flaw-Plagued Photographer

I will admit it. Many of my photos have flaws. Many have not been preserved properly.

They represent memories, however, so I am reluctant to toss them in the trash. Katrin Eisman’s book equipped me with the skills to restore them to a state to which I can be proud. This book has helped me take my well-intentioned, yet poorly executed photos, correct the color, contrast and tone. Mold, cracks and torn edges mystically disappear.

The moments I attempted to preserve were precious to me. The beautiful images that result from her easy to find, easy to follow, step-by-step instructions are a gift.… (plus d'informations)
