Holy cow at this long, informative book. I chose this book because I noticed Simon Bolivar is also all over New Orleans. Little did I know he was Venezuelan. Once he visited Charleston and was exposed to American democracy, he became an even more staunch activist for the freedom of Venezuela from Spain and the promotion of democracy for Latin America. After years of traveling through Europe, South America, and the Caribbean islands, Bolivar was elected as Presient "La Gran Colombia," which was part of Venezuela at the time. Years later, opposers of his broke into his home and his life was saved by a woman. This thirty-two pages books is filled with an abundance amount of information about the life and achievements of Benito Juarez. The book discusses the diversity of the people in Mexico during the 1800s and how people were treated based on the ethnicity. Benito Juarez lived his life not focused on becoming president, but on gaining knowledge and using his gained knowledge to promote justice in Mexico. I love reading books about leaders in other countries. I would definitely use this book in my class for a history lesson. I had never heard of Benito Juarez before I read this autobiography. I couldn't believe him and his gonvernment got captured, that was really kept me wanting to read. Over all I think the author did a good job with how the book was set up.
I would love to use this in my classroom for 3rd or 4th grade, I think we could do a lot of fun stuff with this book!

I would use this book when talking about other countries during a history lesson. It's always fascinating to see what's going on in other parts of the world.
