Morris Day

Morris Day has been a part of the Prince universe since inception, and he reminds you of it often in this slim autobiography. That's not to say that he hasn't done plenty on his own, he just refuses to make his accomplishments the focal point. As a result, this book, like Day and his band the Time, suffers from perpetual underachievement.

Day's is an interesting story, one filled with the usual pitfalls of the record business. But in this book, those stories get short shifted to talk about Prince. Just like the band's albums often failed to flex their own muscle and instead chose to stick to the boss's formula, this book fails to cut ties with the purple one and focus on the author.
