Orangutans Are Ticklish: Fun Facts from an Animal… par Jill Davis
What it says on the tin! Plenty of excellent animal photos and facts about orangutans, hippos, aarvarks, kangaroos, grizzly bears, chimpanzees, lions, tigers, alligators, giraffes, elephants, coatimundis (coatis), and zebras.
I have some mixed feelings about this book. I loved the design and the little personal asides from the photographer, and some of the pictures were amazing, particularly those of the tiger and orangutan. However, some pictures were surprisingly blurry, like the kangaroo, giraffe and zebra. Most of the animals except the aardvark and coati are pretty well known, and I wish there had been more variety. And I didn't like the mention of keeping coatis as pets without a reprimand about the dangers and ethics of exotic pets. I enjoyed the individual stories, but as a cohesive theme, the book fell short for me. The cover and title suggests more travel and adventure than is to be found inside. Even so, most of the stories did illustrate the point that exposure to differences positively influences a person.
The pictures really make this book. There are captions on each page from the photographer that talk about how he got those shots. It would be a great book for a child that is interested in photography or animals.
