This is a complicated historical period stemming from a dearth of sources compared to the time before and after, and as such the real "dark" age. We get a good tour of the known highlights, the last roman emperors, the triumph of christianity, schism with the east (byzantine empire), the carolingians, a view to islamic Spain, and rounding it out with some material on how this begins to shape modern Europe.

I think the lecturer did a good job presenting the material, but there's just not that richness (of sources) to make it a really compelling period.… (plus d'informations)

Fascinating to learn about the crusades. I didn’t realize there were multiple crusades and not just to the Holy Land, but also Germany, Southern France and Egypt, to name just a few.
