Ann Criswell

Some of the restaurants are gone, but many have stayed the course and are still thriving. The book is by my great and good friend Ann Criswell. Ann and I became friends through her husband, Jim (now deceased). She has known Ross' family much longer, and together we have reminisced over the long gone old time restaurants in Houston. Ann was the food editor for the Chronicle for many years (and many think it's not been the same since she left). Jim was an unlikely librarian, and Ann supposes she should have been. She was dogged in her quest for a particular recipe. She's retired now, and we visit via E-mail and occasionally have lunch. Familiar restaurants, some no longer around, but some are. The book was written by our long-time friend, Ann Criswell. The foreword is by another long-time friend (now deceased), Maxine Messinger. For many years Maxine wrote the "gossip" column in our local newspaper, Miss Moonlight's memos. She was always gracious. She wrote a lot about my father-in-law when he was active in the hotel business, but when he retired, he told her "No more!" At her memorial service, lots of cocktail music was played to entertain us, and her good friend, Mitzi Gaynor, gave a lovely speech.… (plus d'informations)
