I loved this story. It had a great sense of place, a fascinating storyline and beautifully defined characters. It felt fresh and wholly believable. Like all good historical fiction it has made me keen to find out more about the real history of the time. I would not have come across this book if I had not found it on a Goodreads review. Thanks to everyone concerned.

Very enjoyable book set in the Depression era in Scotland. Great characterisation showing poverty and hardship without being sordid. Hard to put down once I had got into the first few chapters. Definitely recommended.

A beautiful and gritty historical romance! Edinburgh, Scotland is a character in itself in this book. I love how well the author illustrates all the sounds, smells, and sights from the time period. Lovely MCs. Heart-wrenching and satisfying, I recommend this book to all romance readers and lovers of Scotland.

I did not particularly enjoy this book. I am a fan of historical fiction and historical romance, but the dialogue in this books really set my teeth on edge and felt rather contrived. I understand it was to convey the class of the characters but it made the dialogue difficult to wade through. I did not find the ending at all satisfying and it felt rather predictable.

The settings were well written and detailed. If you like sad books and a rendering of brogue dialect in print doesn't bother you, it may be your cup of tea, it just wasn't mine.… (plus d'informations)
