This was a very interesting read. Mr. Colley loves history and it shows throughout his books. He takes you to the time he's writing about and puts you in the story with his characters. You come to feel for the characters and vicariously live their lives (for better or for worse). This is set during WWII in occupied France and is very intriguing. Well written and very much makes you question what you would have done in their circumstances.

This was a very interesting story. I haven't read the other books in this series but intend to. This volume was set in modern day chronicling a family in distress and their link to WWI. Great juxtaposition of different times and different generations. Really enjoyed the history aspect.

The book is improved by the appendix, which gives short bios of major personalities involved in the main events, like Lenin, Nicholas II, Trotzky and Stalin.

The value of this book over reading the Wikipedia page on the Russian revolution is, however, suspect. In fact, the latter might contain more information, to be honest.… (plus d'informations)

This is a very informative book. It covers the high points of the activities surrounding the "war to end all wars". It gives the reader a good taste of WWI and gives direction for future reading on this fascinating topic.
