Oh, UGH. I've tried to read this several times, and dropped it. This time I managed to slog through - no payoff, though. He's ridiculously suspicious (what exactly would be the point of claiming the wrong name and a disappearing husband, if she meant to pretend to be Adam's wife?) and she's equally ridiculously hiding things (I'll tell him what he needs to know. Oh well, he figured out a bit more, so I'll tell him that - but still keep secrets (my position). He found out more and it made him more suspicious - so I'll tell him everything! Except my motivation for the marriage (which is the key to everything))...ghahhhhhh. And the stupid horse - though that actually made some sense. Not a lot, but some. And I swear the characters kept switching - there were whole conversations where the companion was saying the heroine's words and vice versa. Or else the author couldn't be bothered to keep track of their characters and just put whatever words she wanted into their mouths. I'm not sure which would be worse - but from the point of view of the reader, the result is horrible. Random actions, stupid 'plans', waaaaay too much coincidence (he just happened to be at the estate. And then the other one came home while they were still there. Oh yes, and neatly tying up loose ends - three men, three women. Sheesh!). At least I finished it this time, so I can get rid of it.… (plus d'informations)
