I ended up skimming the last 1/3 of the book. I hate to say it but I was bored...too much of the characters thoughts. I couldn't stand Gen who was so distrustful and misinterpreted EVERY situation!

in the description the book states that Casey is a 23 yo woman; however, based on her drama i would say she is @ 13 or 14.

i am not finishing this series, which is a big deal for me. i love series books and getting into the characters.

the majority of the book is casey talking to herself and going back and forth, making assumptions, crying alot.

In 1891 and death comes to the streets of Auckland. Can Inspector Andrew Kelly and Anna Cassidy (trained but not qualified as a doctor by her father, the former Chief Surgeon for the Auckland Police Force) determine who the murderer is before he strikes again.
The tale is told from the view point of Cassidy and Kelly, the romance is between these two but thankfully the book was more of a mystery.
Really enjoyed this book and the characters so I am hoping there will be another, and another in this series.

Seems to be loosely based on Kristen Ashley Rock Chick series.
This seems to match book 2 of that series, that dealt with Roxie and her crazy ex.
There are some good ideas and opportunities for a good story if you like a jealous possessive alpha man but somehow it doesn't quite work.
Scenes feel OTT.

No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.

Plenty of secondary characters introduced for future books in series.

I may try book 2 to see if it improves.

Every time I read a book in this series it reminds me of the rock chick series by Kristen Ashley. It's the same, but not. You will see what I mean when you read the books.

I am going to be so sad when this series ends! This book was wonderful. It had all the action and romance you could want. With all the normal misunderstandings associated with a budding romance.
I enjoyed every minute. Cant wait to get my greedy eyes on the next installment!

I haven't read too many historical romances, but this was one of those books that I knew I was going to love after the first chapter. It had a strong female protagonist in Anna Cassidy, who's not your typical woman of the 1890's. She's a surgeon trained by her father in Auckland, NZ in a time when a female doctor was a rarity. Anyway, I loved Anna and Andrew. Anna is not only a Suffragette, fighting for the right to vote, she aspires to be the Chief Surgeon for the police force in a time when female doctors were a rarity. Fearless... History. Mystery. Perfect!
I certainly recommend this who done it!

There are a lot of paranormal romance vampire novels. Even a lot in which a hunter falls in love with the master of the city. But the intriguing symbiosis that the author builds, and her unique setting and interesting supernatural community set this one far apart from the rest. Lots of mysteries, and a powerful heroine coming into her own. This book has a plot that goes far beyond the formula, and represents an excellent blend of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

Kindred is the first book in the Kindred Series by Nicola Claire. WOW, what a start!

I love the character of Lucinda Monk. She is a feisty, kick ass, vampire hunter. Lucinda knows she is a vampire hunter with supernatural abilities. However, she does not know why she is different and why she feels a pull toward vampires preying on innocent humans. Throughout the book, Lucinda makes discoveries about her family history and her fate. Telling the story from Lucinda’s POV enhanced my connection to her character. I really enjoyed her internal monologue and her sense of humor.

Now, what can I say about Michel? Sexy, Sexy, Sexy Vampire! He is the master vampire, who feels a connection to Lucinda. His goal is to protect Lucinda and make her his. I adored Michel; however, Michel’s characteristics caused me to flashback to Jean Claude of the Anita Blake Series. Michel is the Master Vampire of the city, he originated from France, had a pet name for Lucinda and was determined to make Lucinda join with him. I wished Michel’s character would have been a little more original.

I loved the originality of Lucinda’s best friend, Rick. He is a Taniwha shape shifter. This type of shape shifter is original to me. In so many books, the shape shifter is a werewolf. I really appreciated learning about the Taniwha’s appearance, supernatural abilities, and their connection to Lucinda.

Oh Nero. I wish you would train me! Nero is Lucinda’s friend, who teaches her about her heritage and abilities. Her description of him is so intriguing. I’m really hoping for a love triangle between Lucinda, Michel and Nero.

I appreciated the glossary of terms provided by Claire. It enhanced the reading experience because I understood the terminology being used. It also allowed me to easily flip back to refresh my memory, as needed.

I highly recommend this book to adults. The writing flowed nicely and kept me wanting more. I found myself staying up late to read. When I finished the book, it remained with me. I would find myself daydreaming about the characters and the Kindred world. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series titled, Blood Life Seeker. I think I’ve located my new favorite series!

I rated The Kindred 4 STARS!

Special thanks to Nicola Claire for providing me with a copy of The Kindred for review. I loved it! Looking forward to staying up late and reading the other books in the series.
