Educational, Entertaining, and Fun!

Disclaimer: The author, Dean Christensen, is my brother. While I have no financial interest in his book, I would non-the-less be happy to learn that Dean sells thousands upon thousands copies, as I truly believe the book is educational, entertaining, and just fun. Here’s why:

Educational. While many who will read this book, who are long-time baseball fans, are apt to know most everything it contains. I believe they will still learn something(s). I confess I did. The book is more than a retelling of baseball terms and rules, as often it includes obscure answers to “who, why, when, where, and how.”

Entertaining. This book is not just a retelling of baseball rules and terms. It covers some rules and terms, but it also discusses some terms, things, people, and events outside of, yet associated with baseball (aka “baseball jargon” – my term!).

Fun. More than once, I had to set the book aside, just to chuckle at a humorous comment or antidote Dean slipped in, at just the right time. Plus, it’s just plain fun to learn and be entertained.

The format of the book – there are no “chapters,” as the book is laid out in an alphabetic glossary style – enables readers to easily find a topic or term. It also means that readers may skip around as they choose. While I read the book from cover to cover (I have the paperback version), I intend to keep it as a nearby handy reference. I do suggest that all readers read the Introduction first.

References within the work are footnotes, not endnotes, and easy to read. It includes a number of illustrations and a nice bibliography.

Persons who would like to expand (or help others to expand) their knowledge of baseball should find this book to be useful – educational, entertaining, and fun!
