I have had a few house plants in my life before, but none really stuck around long. I am more of an outside plant gal, but am hoping to change. I did go get a small palm for a table, her name is Bella. Someday I would like to go wild and get a huge indoor plant. This book is inspiring, with lots of pictures and ideas of how to not only choose and care for your new friend but how to decorate with plants, just like the title says. Fun!

A very useful resource!

Getting started: choosing and buying your plant, what to look for when buying a plant, potting your plant, repotting, caring for your plant, different types of light (direct, bright, moderate, low), watering, humidity, temperature, fertilizer (usually monthly in spring and summer), plant SOS, shaping your plant/adding support, sharing your plant (dividing).
-How to make kokedama

Part I is "the go-to plant list," including 28 plants: the common and botanical names, basics (care requirements like light, watering, type of soil, fertilizer, temperature, and size), a description, a photo, and sometimes an extra tip.

Part II is "a room-by-room guide," showing many of the plants from Part I in the different areas of a house, from bedroom to bathroom to kitchen.

Back matter includes an appendix of common and botanical (Latin) names, resources, and an index.

At home, I already have several succulents, a ZZ plant, a philodendron, and pothos; now I'm considering adding an air plant (Tillandsia) to the bathroom, a snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) to the bedroom, and perhaps English Ivy (Hedera helix) in the kitchen. Tree ivy (Fatshedera lizei "Angyo Star") is also intriguing, with beautiful leaves and a tolerance for low light.

-Full-spectrum LED grow strip lighting for plants that need 12 hours of sunlight a day
-Air plants: mist, dunk, or soak to water; can live in the shower or bathroom mirror in a suction-cup dish or container

I really enjoyed this - the author had some very basic ideas for the non green thumbed (like me!) then included more general ideas for those more advanced. The author also included the light plants needed, and specific ideas for making planters.
