A new book , french language only profusely illustrated by a mass of excellent photos, amny of which are certainly new to me and in known cases provide an extension on that which one would normally expect to see used.
The french language can generally speaking be worked around, would have preferred an english language edition but this is not to be had and it is unlikley to be available in english (Unless a UK publisher take it up whoch is probably unlikely).
What do you get for yout money , some 60 Euros.
A lot to be honest.
I saw the book an knew I would be buying it after spending 10 minutes with it, the book covers the formation , training ,deployment to Belgium and on to France.
The commanding officers at all levels are well represented and biographical accounts of them are given , this does not detract from the aim of the book whilst it adds structure to the overall picture of the unit and what it was.
The Divisions engagement with Allied forces in Normandy is of coure what the book is about and it covers this very well, my french is very average and it will take me a little time to read it in total- that which I have read I am happy with, IMO value for money.
