Summary: In this book it explains the moving in of new neighbors next door. Sophie is a young girl with a big imagination and she thought that her next door neighbors were monsters and wanted to take her away. Little did she know they were nice monsters that just liked to have a great time. When Sophie met their son Charlie, she found out how amazing of a friend he was and could not wait to play with him again someday.

Personal Reaction: Growing up as the only child it comes a point in life were you have to open up your door and let new people in. Sometimes it is not going to be the nicest people but it is not good to be a stand-alone kid. When I was younger and I had new neighbors move in next door it took me weeks to actually go out and get to know them. As I continued to do so I realized that everyone is not a bad person.

Classroom Extensions: 1.) In the classroom I would let the children sit by someone that they do not talk to everyday.
2.) I would have them talk to each other and find something that they both like or don’t like.
3.) In the classroom I would let those kids go play for 5 or 10 minutes just to get to know each other more so they can see that it is a good thing to have a lot of friends.

She loved to draw the circus on her bedroom wall, and pay four person board games by herself. One day she noticed the neighbors moving in next door. They were monsters with tentacles and strange faces. Sophie was afraid of them and warned her mother about them. She informed Sophie to put on a dress because she invited the new neighbors to dinner. Instead, Sophie put on her best monster-protection outfit consisting of a helmet, gloves, and big boots. When the neighbors arrived, they were big and scary! The dad was giant, and the little boy Charlie had blue hair and a pug nose. At the dinner table, Charlie made his tongue change colors like a chameleon. He began to make Sophie laugh. They became play buddies. Charlie brought Sophie's circus drawings to life, changed things into potatoes and used his breath to carry toys down from shelves. Sophie was impressed and wanted to show off her tricks, so she showed him toilet paper parachutes and more drawings. Sophie was able to sleep well that night dreaming about her new monster friend.… (plus d'informations)
